Yuké
The Taíno people — the indigenous inhabitants of Puerto Rico — called the mountains of the northeastern island Yuké, meaning "white lands." Not because the earth was pale, but because the peaks were so often wrapped in clouds that the mountains seemed to float between sky and earth, between the visible world and something just beyond it.
The Spanish who arrived in the 16th century heard the word and kept it, transforming it over time into Yuké, then Yuque, and eventually into the name we know today: El Yunque — the only tropical rainforest in the United States National Forest system, and the ancient heart of Puerto Rico's natural world.
"The mountains still wear their clouds. The name still holds its meaning. And the land still remembers everything."
Hacienda Yuké takes its name from that original word — not as a brand gesture, but as an act of acknowledgment. This land sits at the edge of that ancient landscape. We are its stewards, not its owners.
What This Place Is
Hacienda Yuké is a private property in the municipality of Luquillo, Puerto Rico — a few minutes from the entrance to El Yunque National Forest, and a world away from the tourist corridors of San Juan.
The property includes open land, tropical forest, the Mameyes River running along its edge, and a private lake surrounded by royal palms. It is a place of extraordinary natural richness — and we are building something worthy of it.
What We Are Building
We are not building a resort. We are not building a theme park version of Puerto Rico. We are building a retreat — a place where the land is the experience, where the river is the entertainment, and where the silence is something you can actually feel.
Every decision we make — from the placement of a cabin to the materials we use — is made with the land in mind first. We want Hacienda Yuké to look, in twenty years, like it was always meant to be here.
Three Things We Believe
The Land Comes First
Every decision starts with one question: what does the land need? Not what is most profitable — what is right for this place.
Slow Is Better
We would rather open one space perfectly than five spaces poorly. Quality takes time. The phases exist because of that belief.
This Is Puerto Rico
Not a generic luxury experience — a Puerto Rican one. Rooted in the land, the culture, the food, the music, and the people of this island.
The Rainforest Next Door
El Yunque National Forest is one of the most biodiverse places on earth. It is also our neighbor.
El Yunque receives more than 100 billion gallons of rainfall each year — home to the Puerto Rican parrot, one of the rarest birds in the world, and hundreds of species of plants, insects, and animals found nowhere else on earth.
Hacienda Yuké sits at the edge of this world. Our guests do not have to travel far to experience it — they simply have to step outside.
Come Early. Witness the Beginning.
Hacienda Yuké is still becoming what it will be. The first spaces are nearly ready. The river is already running. And the mountains are still wearing their clouds.
We are still building. And we invite you to witness it.
Welcome to Hacienda Yuké. The land remembers you.
